Singer songwriter Fred Soon performs a rich, cute acoustic set woven of bright melodies, and skillful rythmic variations. From the texts and from the music, emerges a deep sensitivity and emotions flow as much from the vocal as from the instrumental tracks.

Meet the artist « FREED WORMS »

The singer-songwriter « Freed Worms » who has been living in the Dordogne for five years, has just finished a sixty date European and France-wide tour following the release of his latest album « REBOOT » in October 2014. During the tour this local artist shared the stage with the likes of Oldelaf, Lili Cros and Thierry Chazelle, Pigalle, Bastien Lanza, Forest Pooky, Nonolimite, Physalis....

At the moment this Perigordian artiste is devoting his time to the composition of new material for his next European tour, planned to last two months in the Spring of 2016, and taking in Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. This will be followed by a French tour between June and September of the same year. As an independant artist « Freed Worms » currently does all his own marketing including the canvassing of promoters.

At the same time he's involved in the writing of new work with a view to recording some tracks this winter. He's also a guitar, drums and singing teacher. « Freed Worms » will be appearing in the Dordogne during July 2016 accompanied by the piano quartet « Physalis » with whom he'll also be playing some German dates in the Spring. After more than 15 years at the heart of various punk rock groups on the Reims music scene in the nineties and noughties, Fred, alias Freed Worms, recorded his first solo album entitled « a Place called Home » which came out in 2010 ; concert dates were immediately organised in its wake.

From the beginning Freed Worms has been a mixed and fluid formation based around Fred the author-composer of the tracks. Nine musicians from differents countries (France, Ireland, Germany and Australia) appeared on the first album. There are sixteen musicians on the second one !

On stage Freed Worms alternates between solo and group gigs. Since 2011, this seasoned musician has toured with a set tailored to suit each venue. This has evolved over time during one-off dates and on various French and European tours. Freed Worms is motivated by the joy of playing, playing, playing on stage, enriching his musical lexicon, by sharing great moments with his public and meeting lovely people. Making the Dordogne his home since 2011 and after several great concerts in the region, thanks largely to the confidence of local promoters, Freed Worms continues to play in the concert venues, bars, streets, squats and appartements of France and Europe with ever-increasing self-assurance and pleasure.

These first years have proved a very promising beginning. We'll remember particularly those support sessions so appreciated by the public and fellow musicians alike, when the stage was shared with those such as:- Moriarty, Oldelaf, Mountain Men, Forest Pooky, Lili Cros & Thierry Chazelle, Bastien Lanza, Jali, Eddy la Gooyatsh, Pigalle...

After a second German tour in 2012, Freed Worms was a jury choice in the French music contest Aquil'Tour in 2013. After successful selection in the first rounds, our hero won the game in the Dordogne final before defeat at regional level. However this last performance was so appreciated by the programmers that they invited Freed Worms to play with them again in 2014.

In order to concentrate on writing, recording and mixing his second album Freed Worms took a years break from performing in the period leading up to the autumn of 2014. With its usual lovely vocal melodies and arrangements, this second album is expected to be even more of a beautiful mosaic than the last. Three tours are in the pipeline to promote the new album from October 2014 in France, Germany and then Northern Europe. Following the 2014-2015-2016 European tour Freed Worms has new perspectives in view. As an avid DIY enthusiast this author-composer-interpreter has used his encounters on the road with groups and promoters throughout Europe, to organise exchanges and get the next tours further through Europe.

Freed Worms is currently acoustic rock singing tinged with folk, in which the vocal melodies and mesmerising atmosphere hold sway whereas previous electrified projects emphasised rythmn and energy. Freed Worms music is rich with influences which inspire the musician : folk, rock, punk, pop. Sometimes in English, sometimes in French, sometimes purely instrumental, the tracks invite us on a musical journey where energy, colour and atmosphere evolve and renew themselves unceasingly.
